Yup that is what happened to me as well. Luckily I had already turned off the computer and TV stuff. Though the air was running but that went off after the power flicked out. Just had to reset the kitchen's clocks.
Wish we got lots of rain. That was the first real rain we have had in like a month here.

I am glad to hear you are getting some rain out that way, it's a real financial problem for so many people who make their living off the land. The storms are supposed to go through here later today and over night.

Ya it is a huge deal here, since it is a very large farming community. So some rain is good but we really need a lot more then what we got yesterday...

Ya gas here is 3.95... Does not sit well for my 3 hour trip I have coming up later this week to a place that has even more expensive gas... Not looking forward to that at all.
Hmm junk food... I really could use some of that. Darn my workout and diet routine this summer... Run in the morning, avoid junk food, and eat less.

Ugh... I am going to sound like a girl but I have had some serious cravings for chocolate and ice cream. I haven't had ice cream in almost a month... I have had it only once in about 2-3 months... Chocolate I rarely have anymore either since I have none here. Me want junk food...

junk food withdrawl---not fun....I always try to keep something around just in case of 'emergencies' like that.
my hubby likes chocolate and ice cream too--however, his idea of a bowl of ice cream is the whole quart!

Ya I wish I would but I know this is better for me... Considering I've lost like 24 pounds this summer, I guess it is working. And ya, I love chocolate and ice cream very much. I could easily eat a quart of it in one sitting. So that has been extremely tough to give up this summer. Also love chocolate. Mmmm. Another thing that has been difficult to avoid...

We have am M&M dispenser which has dark chocolate M&Ms in it. I usually have about 15 to 20 a day to keep from having a binge on it. I am also losing weight with my salad at night 5 days a week, lost about 15 to 20 lbs so far.

I do add chicken or ham to the salad along with a low fat cheese to get some protein and fats into my system. I haven't had ice cream in about 2 months and I used to have a little each night.

Ya I would definitely need more than that lol I would say my plan is working for me so I see no reason to change my diet atm.
Well it is almost time to start school up again. Went in for 2 hours today to hang some posters and what not.

I eat ice cream occasionally, but when its so blinkin' hot, it will melt before it gets home (and I'm too stupid to put a cooler in my car when I go shopping, heck I forget to put the stupid plastic bags FOR the groceries in the car sometimes!)....not missing it much, I DO miss chocolate so I eat a wee bit a day (and no I am NOT loosing any weight).
so my question is: (for our biology major)....
a person eats a huge breakfast --say about enough calories to for their metabolism to not need to eat again for a whole day,
at what point does the body start storing those calaories as fat?
for example, you eat a good breakfast, say about 500 calories, your body is only using about (lets say) 60 calories an hour, so you just ate enough calories to keep your body going well past lunch---(also assuming you are not exercising--that is another question)....when does the fat start forming?

I have an ice cream place right across the street from me. Made it that much harder to drop ice cream cause I can just get over there...
Hmm, well that question is probably suited more for our anatomy teacher than myself but I'll give it a whirl. Really the biggest thing you would need to worry about with not eating is stomach ulcers. Your stomach releases acid on a cycle, which is usually dictated by when you eat if you eat at the same time basically every day. No food means the acid will start to eat away your stomach. But anyways, I digress. Fat has to be broken down in the stomach and then move on into the large intestine. Once there fat can move into the lymphatic system, since it is to big to move into the blood stream. Now I'm going to make a bit of a leap here, and it may be incorrect, but if I remember correctly, it takes anywhere from 1-3 days for your food to "work its way out" of your system. So reasonably, it probably takes a day for the food, or extra calories, to become fat. So really I'm not sure and from the research I just did, there seems to be little on when fat starts forming. Probably because we aren't so focused on when it starts forming, but rather how to get rid of it.

hm...not quite what I was asking. I understand how long it takes food to 'move thru' the plumbing....I just wondered if say you ate a horrible large meal one day (say 3000+ calories) when it starts to be turned into fat (unless you are an athlete of somekind, most people dont need that kind of caloric intake).....so if you eat too much one day, eat less the next, etc....does it even out or are you going to gain weight from that one big day?
guess I am asking just how metabolism works....I understand the body requires a certain amount of calories to function (mine requires a lot less than most other peoples )...but if you usually eat right, but splurge one or two days (hey, the holidays are NOT that far away!) will you pudge out for it?
You would think people would be concerned with how to keep from getting fat as well as how to get rid of it (or how did I get this fat?--what did I do wrong and HOW can I correct it so that it doesnt happen again)
I took anatomy, think its more a physiology question ....didnt make it that far in hard sciences.
and yes, it 65 outside and our a/c is on since its 80+ inside...I really hate living on the third floor sometimes (if I were to open the door I would get bugs--LOTS of them and the temp would still not go down since we have no cross ventilation).

If I had to guess, again just a guess, for the fat to actually show probably takes a while. It isn't going to happen over night. If you splurge one day and then go back to eating normally it really shouldn't affect you much at all because your body will use those calories eventually. It won't just forget about them. So really you shouldn't worry to much about weight gain over the holidays unless you are eating way more calories then usual for a week or so.
Anatomy and physiology usually go hand in hand. Just sayin'.
o.O It is around 70 here right now. Didn't get up to 80 until yesterday afternoon. Left the windows open for a good part of yesterday until it became cooler outside and wouldn't cool my apartment off (darn 2nd floor...). That is when I turned the a/c on for a couple of hours. Now the windows are open again.

yeah they do, however, when I was in college they were 2 separate classes, and seeing as I barely got out of human anatomy I wasnt particularly keen on hurting my gpa more that year (and the class was full anyways with pre-med majors, of which I was not)....so I put it off, and then since all the art majors did so ....poorly in the HA class--it was removed from the requirements (as well as the physiology class) for graduation (phew!!)...so I took different classes to meet the full year of hard science requirement (took physics of sound...was a fun class--didnt hurt that my bf at the time was in my class too )
soooo glad they changed requirements....also ditched the swimming one AFTER I had finished that class ....was never terribly good at sports
yeah.. would love to leave the door open, but about 5 minutes after its open, the a/c comes on telling us its 80 in side already! (and the computers dont like it hotter than that). yeah, dang living on the top floor!

Wow, I'm amazed that they applied the changes in curriculum to you guys. When I went in to college we got our curriculum and were told it wouldn't change. So even though changes were made to it while I was there. They didn't affect me sine I came in under a different one. Essentially a grandfather clause I guess.
The joy of only having 1 computer, and it being a laptop. Doesn't put off near the heat desktops do.
